Restaurant Review #20 - Crepes and Cones

Hi everyone,

For this edition, I am not reviewing a luxury, fine dining establishment. Instead I am briefly reviewing the very popular Crepes and Cones in Croydon. For many Londoners, Croydon has a sketchy reputation although like most places, it has both positives and negatives. The whole neighbourhood has received heavy investment and has now started inspiring interesting eating holes. One such place is Crepes and Cones. The owners are two local rappers who perhaps have not had the most peaceful upbringing but have now turned their attention to this restaurant. It has become a hit and performs very well.

The restaurant itself has a very modern/urban feel and the decor reflects that. I feel that this is a positive as it does not pretend to be something it's not. When I arrived, the kitchen was closed, which was a shame but there were problems with the gas pipes. Luckily, the restaurant still offered desserts. Seeing as this establishment is famous due to its desserts, I was able to taste their signature dishes. The servers were excellent, very friendly and warm. They take orders using an electronic tablet and drop down to your level to speak to you. Perhaps they are not as formal compared to fine dining restaurants, but they made you feel welcome. We ordered crepes and ice cream thereby ordering the dishes that inspired the name of this restaurant. The presentation was acceptable, what is to be expected from a restaurant of this level. The food itself was ok, nothing special I must say. The flavours are what I expected them to be. But I would understand how many would enjoy this restaurant. I can imagine how the warm food would taste. However, for those looking for a nice atmosphere then this restaurant ticks the boxes. They are targeting a mass audience which explains why they serve generic food. Nevertheless, I appreciate what they have tried to do and wish them success in the future.

Price: Standard
Food: American Diner
Service: Very Warm and Welcoming

Rating: 2.5/5

Fun Fact: The owners of this restaurant are rappers named Krept and Konan, which is what inspired the name.
