Bar Review #11 - Foggy's

Hi everyone,

Today I wanted to review another bar. London is littered with so-called expensive restaurants and bars that command a high price point. However, many disappoint thereby making me wary of certain places that do not have a rich history. Foggy's is located in the trendy Mayfair and can be quite difficult to find. The odd looking bar has a doorman which was quite rude and gave a bad first impression. However, when we eventually got a table we found the bar to be of an interesting design. Not luxurious but a pleasant twist on modernity and antiques. The waiting staff are very friendly but aloof and take a long time to serve you. However, the menu itself is interesting with an additional wheel menu to help you choose the perfect cocktail. It is important to note that this is mostly a cocktail bar rather than specialising in a particular alcohol. I feel that is establishment was lively and had a general exclusive but relaxing aura. The cocktails were slightly cheaper than other high-end bars and offered a wide variety of innovative and creative cocktails. I prefer rum based cocktails and was pleasantly surprised with my tropical creation. It is certainly a place I wish to return as I want to try their other cocktails. I recommend to go but do reserve a table in advance as the doorman can be rude if you don't.

Fun Fact: The first use of the word cocktail was by the British in the late 18th century. It was slang for when dealers used to stick ginger up the anus of a horse to make it's tail lift. This 'cocked-up tail' was a sign of a spirited horse and somehow managed to become a slang term for ginger alcohol drinks and eventually alcoholic mixed drinks.
