Bar Review #2 - Claridge's Bar

Hi everyone,

Recently I ticked off another thing on the bucket list by having a drink at Claridge's. The world renown hotel has had many important people grace its bar. Located in Mayfair, this hotel has a mighty reputation of delivering a high quality experience. The door to the bar is small and tucked away from Claridge's grand entrance but has an exclusive feel. Once inside you are greeted by an attentive waiter that will look after you for the rest of your time there. The room itself is probably the most humble in the whole hotel. However, the ceiling was magnificent and adorned with impressive chandeliers. The bar held an impressive collection of alcohols and the servers were very professional. They made sure you were having a great experience by asking you about your day and constantly topping up the complimentary addictive nuts and cheesy bread sticks.

The atmosphere was quiet and professional. I could not imagine this bar getting lively as there is a formal tone throughout. In my opinion it lacked a bit of character. The drinks menu itself was impressive with eye watering prices on a selections of wines and spirits. The cocktails seemed to have been created to impress even the most enthusiastic drinker. The prices for cocktails range from £19-22. It is safe to say that this was the most I have ever paid for a cocktail. It is not an outrageous price but definitely higher than most places. Naturally, I chose the Peruvian; a pisco with ginger syrup, lime juice and Angostura bitters. My friend ordered the Treat for Kings which was an Ilegal Mezcal with agave nectar and fresh pineapples. The presentation was high class with the drinks being of a high standard. I wouldn't go as far to say mind blowing but you could immediately tell they used very high quality ingredients. A solid effort and a drink that I throughly enjoyed. Whether it warrants that price is debatable. Ultimately, you are also paying for the great service and the brand. On another note, the toilets are phenomenal and the hotel itself reeks of prestige. I would not recommend going here often but saving it for celebratory moments. After all, you don't need to have super fancy cocktails to have a pleasant night out.
