Bar Review #3 - Vertigo 42

Hi everyone,

There are some vital British activities one should do: have a pint at a pub, have fish and chips at a chippy and have afternoon tea. On this cold, wet Wednesday afternoon I decided to do the latter. Despite having afternoon tea, Vertigo 42 promotes itself as a champagne bar so I will archive it as a bar review. I also justify this decision as I did have some champagne, as evidenced by the photo. Vertigo 42 is located in Tower 42, a skyscraper in the City of London. Rather obviously, it has 42 floors and the bar is located on the 42nd floor. The City can be confusing to navigate at times but it is relatively easy to find this tower. It is in-between Bank and Liverpool Street station; although closer to Liverpool Street.

Once inside you get given a little card that gives you access inside the building. The clearly labelled walls direct you towards an elevator that takes you up to the top of the building. Once inside it has a peculiar structure. It is structured as a circle and tables are next to the windows, so wherever you sit you can have a view of London. The middle of the room is closed off so the space is shaped like a circular doughnut. I don't know what is located in the middle but I hazard to guess the kitchen is there. Unfortunately, it was a miserable day but the views were still impressive. Once you are seated you are given your champagne and the sandwiches/scones shortly follow. I did find quite annoying that the tea was not served immediately. We received the tea once we requested for it. The champagne was ok but nothing special. The food was not of the same quality compared to previous afternoon teas I have had. The selling point of Vertigo 42 is its view; £36 for 2 people provides a very good price for that experience. I will probably not return to this place but for those that want to have tea with a view, and on a budget, then this place is a good alternative. For those that want a view but are willing to spend a little more then I would recommend going to the Shard.

Rating: 2.5/5

Fun Fact: There are 2 businesses registered per 1 resident in the City of London
