Bar Review #4 - Sexy Fish

Hi Everyone,

Occasionally you stumble across a bar that you leave impressed and wish to return. Such was the case with Sexy Fish, an establishment located in Mayfair. The security at its entrance in the fancy Bekerley Square can be slightly intimidating but when you enter you are greeted by enthusiastic staff. The bar can get busy in the evening but they will always try to accommodate you. The bartenders themselves are very engaging and well versed on their menu. They clearly explained that they have the second largest collection of Japanese whiskeys and highly recommended them. Therefore, I started with a classic Old Fashioned.

The Old Fashioned was smooth and tasted well. It was definitely worth a try. Another point to note, Sexy Fish offers complimentary olives and nuts. While the gesture is nice, what is impressive is the wasabi nuts. They tend to be addictive, at least for me, making me thirsty and therefore wanting to purchase more cocktails. I decided to open their very unusual cocktail menu. It is full of unusual names and combinations. One cocktail in particular stood out, Harry Le Beau. This cocktail contained: Havana Club, Lime, Pineapple, Sweets and Curry Spices. The latter interested me as I wondered how it would taste.

My overall opinion of this cocktail was positive, the curry spices were not overwhelming and added an interesting dimension to the cocktail. However, the sweets were very sweet and I thought it didn't compliment the drink well. Luckily, they come in a separate bag. The final cocktail I ordered was a Pimped Cup. By this point I was feeling the economic strain as the cocktails cost £20, £12 and £12 respectively. However, this is not unreasonable considering it's location and quality.

The Pimped Cup was a nice way to end the evening as it was fresh. It has Beefeater Gin, Lemonade and other complimentary ingredients such as vermouth. It reminded me of Pimms and would be perfect for a Summer's day. Overall, Sexy Fish offers an fun and interesting experience for those looking for a drink. It is higher end and located in a posh zone but the prices are not exaggerated. It is definitely worth a try if you happen to be in Mayfair.
